Kalixa Prepaid MasterCard Review

Introductory paragraph of text summarising card benefits.

kalixa Prepaid MasterCardThe new Kalixa Pay as You Go card is one of the front runners when it comes to prepaid credit cards. With a low application fee of only £4.95, it is one of the cards to obtain, and, as with all of the cards we compare, it's accepted by all retailers who participate in the Mastercard scheme.

There are no transaction fees associated with the Kalixa card, so you can use it for small, everyday purchases that you'd usually use your credit or debit card for. You can also use it to withdraw cash from ATMs with an additional charge of £1.75.

As with all prepaid Mastercards, the Kalixa Pay as You Go card is less susceptible to banking fraud, as even with the card and the PIN any potential fraudster still won't have direct access to your bank account. This makes the Kalixa Pay as You Go card ideal for making online payments if you are wary of security on the Internet.

Compare prepaid credit cards

When you compare prepaid credit cards to find the one that best suits your circumstances, it's important to take into account both the way you'll use the card and the potential fees you could be charged. Although the Kalixa card makes no charges for transactions and doesn't charge a monthly account management fee, there are loading charges when you put money on the card.

The loading charges for the Kalixa Pay as You Go card are as follows:

  • Bank transfer - transferring money directly from your bank into your Kalixa eAccount will cost you £0.99, and the transfer will take between two and five business days to clear.
  • Credit or debit card - if you use a credit or debit card to top up your account, you will be charged 1.95% of the transfer amount. The sum will be transferred instantly.
  • Moneybookers - if you use the Moneybookers service to load up your card, you will be charged 3.5%, with a minimum charge of £1.
  • ClicktoBuy - loading up your Kalixa card using ClicktoBuy will incur a 5% fee.
  • Wage payment - with the Kalixa card you can arrange to have your wages paid directly into your Kalixa eAccount without incurring any fees.

When it comes to avoiding Ryanair card handling charges, the Kalixa Pay as You Go card is a good choice if you plan on flying a lot with the airline in the future - load on a lump sum through a bank transfer, and the lack of transaction fees make using this card one of the shrewdest and most cost-effective ways to book Ryanair flights.
